The Relay For Life of Trinity held their Team Wrap-Up Celebration on May 26th and they had much to celebrate. relay1Their event, which was held in the stadium at Mitchell High School on May 7-8, was the largest, most successful Relay For Life in Pasco, Pinellas, Hernando and Citrus counties. The Trinity Relay For Life teams raised $140,000 for the American Cancer Society to use for patient services, research, education and advocacy.

The top fundraising team, Trinity Trailblazers (from Trinity Elementary School), was a “Gold” team, raising $10,710. Their main team fundraiser was a mini-Relay For Life, that was held at the school prior to the actual Relay For Life of Trinity. There were nine “Silver” teams that raised over $5,000 each and three “Bronze” teams that raised over $2,500 each. The top fundraising individual was Jerry Johnson from the Moe & Marinelli family team. He raised
$5,445, and his main fundraiser was a fishing tournament. Seven other individuals were Star Supporters, raising over relay$1,500 each. The most team spirit trophy went to the Friends & Family Against Cancer team. Their team captain, Cathy Kranich from First Affiliated Title, even took a turn in the dunk tank as part of her team’s on-site fundraiser. The top rookie team award went to the Size 12s For a Cure team. The team was named after the shoe size of their captain,
Meredith Jewell, a cancer survivor and teacher at Mitchell High School.

Rasmussen College was the major sponsor of the event. Descendant Detectives sponsored the survivor lap. Event Chair Sheila Stiles and the Royal Court of the 2010 Relay For Life of Trinity led 100 other survivors in a victory lap to open the event. The Royal Court included Queen Patricia Wolf, King Mark Moe, Princess Katilyn Saylor and Prince Brock Simmermacher. Glenn Rodawalt and family sponsored the luminaria ceremony in memory of his wife, Betty Rodawalt. Hundreds of luminaria circrelay2led the track in memory and in honor of those who have battled cancer. St. Nicholas Christian Orthodox School  sponsored the Kids Walk that was held at the event the next morning. Track markers were sponsored by Bianco and Mansfield, Florida Women’s Care, Heritage Springs Men’s Golf Association, Law Office of Chuck Phillips, Richard Maravel M.D., New Image Dermatology, Pasco Pinellas Cancer Center and
Attorney Sallie Skipper.

Twenty-seven teams have already registered for the 2011 Relay For Life of Trinity, which will have a cartoon theme, “Tooning Out Cancer.” Anyone interested in forming a team or being on the planning committee should contact Event Chair Sheila Stiles at 727-944-8602 during the day or 727-849-1397 in the evening.
